Surprisingly, I enjoyed the story a lot. The characters are all complex and faced both personal struggles and struggle against choices that could change the world. The betrayal that Hassan faced is unexpected but at the same time not too shocking.
Hassan is not the Last Prophet is also something that I have seen coming, alongside Illya's shady behaviour. It means some part of the storyline is quite predictable. The elements of unpredictability such as Hector's death, how is Beru and Ephyra is supposedly going to destroy the world and the blank answer of how to stop the Age of Darkness is really fun. The world-building is excellent and I enjoyed the discrimination of the Graced that becomes the motive for the Witnessess and Hierophant. Hierophant and "Mrs Tappan" mystery; their identity and motive set up an exciting feeling for the next book. I'm also hopeful they would not become a one-dimensional antagonist if they are one.
