I have to admit, I was quite disappointed in this read. It just didn’t give me what I thought it would. The storyline was flat, and it didn’t feel cohesive. I feel there was a lot missing. I know this was only book one, but the characters didn’t seem multidimensional. Cressa and River’s parents are dead and she says she’s an orphan but she’s 18. The whole ordeal with Brit’s mom was interesting, but not shocking as it was made to be. The bit when Carmen sent Cressa to her friends house and she was under her spell, I really didn’t see the whole point in that scene. What was the purpose?

Correction: I thought this was book one, but it really read like a standalone. It felt like there wasn’t a book before this one.

A really great read! While I'm a bit sad that I didn't read the first one, I'm glad I read this book in the series. I love all the prose and the wonderfully descriptions. The character development is excellent and the world-building is really mesmerizing.
