This covers the first three books in the Griffin and Sabine story. My mother's friend Phyllis was clearing out books and gave them to me. I was pretty enthralled. The books themselves are beautiful with their slightly weird artwork. And of course it's fun to have to pull out the letters from the envelopes to read. The story is offbeat and mysterious, and each book ended in an intriguing and ever so creepy way. Phyllis had told me there were more books in the series, and I couldn't wait to get my hands on them, I ordered all three right away. Hmm. Continued....
Haunting and mesmerizing. Many thanks to my mom for giving me this beautiful gift for Christmas; I absolutely loved it.
A bit sappy of a story, really, but the illustrations are just gorgeous. And ridiculous as it seems, I still want to read the next one.
The format of this book is very creative - it is a series of post cards and letters (some in envelopes) detailing the correspondence between a woman living in the South Pacific and a man living in London. Beautiful artwork also brings depth to this piece. The open ending left me perplexed, but I believe that is the intent. A quick, enjoyable read.
These books fascinated me when I was younger and are a HUGE part of the reason I became the avid reader that I am. They are mysterious, engaging and a wonderful story with the most gorgeous illustrations. Being able to interact with the story made me realize that all stories are capable of immersing you in them if you allow them to. I will cherish these books and they will forever hold a special place in my heart.
I think this hits differently from when I first read it. Still quite lovely, but I find the intensity in the corresponding to be a bit abrupt and not quite believable. Griffin is melancholy and instantly starts obsessing about Sabine and her mysterious connection to him. It seemed romantic in my 20s. And now, after MeToo, it feels ... different.
But I do love the format of the book and the story unfolding in letters. So I will read on and see what else has changed for me.

This is not a children's book. Do not hand it to your children. (And no. I did not go into it thinking it was.)
This is just beautiful, chilling, startling, artwork and story telling. There is something deeply personal about this that makes me think back to my childhood. I want a penpal again... I can't wait to thrust this into a friend's hands.

I am in complete awe that I became so attached to these characters in just 46 pages.
I finally read this thing! It’s weirder than I expected and isn’t really a finished story. I guess that’s why there were more of them
I'm in love with the concept of a fiction that is brought to light only through correspondence, this trilogy is both inspired and inspiring, revealing a great unique romance and open-ended sort of science fiction as well.
I want to write like this, and I want to see more correspondence fiction.
