This book is gorgeous, fun, and so ridiculously sweet and I loved every second of it!
This was so sweet and incredibly cute. Looking forward to reading this to my littles the next time I see them. Books like this are so wonderful for kids to have and for Black babies especially to see kids tell stories who are just like them.
A cute children's book for young black girls and their natural hair. Love her dad for getting the YouTube video to get a beautiful style.
Very cute but you really can't go wrong working with Vashti Harrison, one of the best children's book illustrators. There is a lot of warmth and humor in the art. I love the part of the errant hairband. The story is simple with a surprise of why Zuri wanted a special hairstyle was sweet. The only quibble was with Zuri sleeping in just an afro; even if she had a silk pillowcase, she'd wake with flattened hair.
Had to read after watching the award-winning animated short based on this book. The short gets five stars for taking the story to the next level!
Both the book and the short film based on the book are awesome!! Any little girls with coily/curly hair should read this one!!
