This book was cute. I watched the movie before listening on audible and of course the book was better, but both were still really good. Watching the movie first made it easier to follow along and visualize what was happening. It wasn't as spooky as other books I've read, but still had a creepy factor to it that I liked. I even like the cover art for the book. It's so vintage looking.

I really enjoyed this book. I wanted more scares, and I’m almost never okay with SPOILERSSSSSS pets dying, but at least it wasn’t done in a completely gruesome way. But the characters and the relationships felt real, and I loved the Summer Horror Movie vibe a lot. The part that’s were scary were well done and a few definitely left me a little sick to my stomach. Overall, a good spooky book!

The pacing of this was great; I was hooked the entire time. I did find the way everyone kept dismissing Abby (before she could even get her story out for them to not believe her) to be almost too frustrating to handle and I wished some other plot devices had been used. But overall it was very compelling and had lots of great twists and turns.

I enjoyed this book so much that I recommended it to my mom, if that tells you anything.

Branded a horror novel, this book delivers - but I'd argue it's more a tale of friendship, girlhood and how far we are willing to go for the ones we love than a simple scary story. It's filled to the brim with '80s references but in a way that's enjoyable, rather than distracting or kitschy. I loved the relationship between the two best friends at the heart of the story, and I loved the ending. It felt earned - and so, so satisfying.

A super fun romp through the 1980s. With a little side of posession.
