John McIlveen has a way with the English language that evokes accurate imagery and often makes your brain smile when maybe the rest of you wants to shudder. "Jerks," the signature tale in this collection, defies the norms of bookstore categorization. At first you might think that it is a tale of feminism, but wait... Then you might see it as a tale of revenge, but wait... Then things get a little weird, so is this a case for the X-Files? Jay and Kay notwithstanding, I will tell you that it is a tale that portrays a strong female protagonist, a male jerk or two, and a really interesting dog. I really enjoyed all the twists and turns, being pissed off and delighted, and finding out that men are jerks and that they know it.

The other stories in this book are:

* "Playing the Huddy's," an interesting game of softball ensues
* "Signs," what if those signs along the way changed and pointed out who you really are?
* "A Perfect Man," perfection is in the eye of the beholder
* "Saddled Vengence," welcome to a wilder, wild, wild west
* "How to Make Sure Your Dream House Is Not Haunted," some advice for the prospective home buyer

Some of what you read in this collection may seem a bit obscure, but trust me, as each tale nears its end, things become crystal clear. I found it to be well written and totally original. If I had to assign a classification to this book, it would be pretty damned funny horror!
