Solide, nicht so gut wie ich Choke oder Fight Club fand, aber vielleicht war ich da einfach jünger. Müsste sie nochmal lesen. Schöne Underdog Story Happy Ending Vibes am Ende.

I haven't read Chuck Palahniuk since high school or maybe early college, and reading this brought me back to what I loved about his writing: shocking, crude, dark humor, and in-your-face descriptions and absurd plots. 17 year old me would have been obsessed with this book. Current adult me still liked it enough, particularly the last section that made the plot feel like there was forward motion again. I likely won't read the next book in this series, but I'm glad to have revisited Palahniuk's narratives again.
Really enjoyed it. Feels like a lot of reviewers missed the point and want Chuck to stay in his lane. This isn't Invisible Monsters, this isn't Fight Club, this is Judy Blume by way of Anton LaVey; this is a coming of age story about a dead girl; this is fucking Young Adult Fiction by our favorite heir to Burroughs and Vonnegut, good old Chucky P.
Wish this book had come out while I was younger though. 14-16 year old Nate would've 5-starred the shit out of this, and would never have shut up about it.
Side note - Huge fan of the chorus he uses in this one (Are you there, Satan? It’s me, Madison). Probably my favorite of his since Invisible Monsters.

Interesting concept, interesting narrator/main character. It just didn't get around to going anywhere.

I can see what the author was trying to do but I didn't find it enjoyable or entertaining to read

Tedious, try-hard and frustratingly inconsistent. Chuck Palahniuk is completely incapable of writing as a 13-year-old girl, particularly a girl of the same generation as Madison would ostensibly be. He just sounds like a 40-something white guy who's really impressed with himself and his ability to write. I can't say that I've read anything else by Palahniuk, but this book was all I needed to ensure that I'll avoid him for the rest of my life. Madison doesn't know what French kissing is, but describes in graphic detail one of the most disturbing sex scenes I've ever come across in any book. Her education is *wildly* out of order with her age. Her personality bounces around all over the place. And then the cop-out twist comes along, and it seems like nothing more than Palahniuk's own realization that he wrote an amazingly inconsistent book and had to cover up the problems—just without having to go back and fix anything. It could just be that this was a personal experiment of his in writing while on a variety of drugs. That would be a fitting reason for how much of this book is just utterly idiotic and lost in superfluous, aren't-I-so-daring gory details. An obnoxious, annoying book.

Hated this. Poorly written. Do not recommend. Chuck's masquerading as a 13-year-old girl is laughable. She sounds nothing like a 13 year old girl. Trite and derivative ripping off Judy Blume's Are You There God? It's Me Margaret
