like everything palahniuk is full of references, very descriptive, dark, stomach churning and of course, irreverent. go unlikely heroine madison spencer.
I enjoyed this book for what it is, but some of it is a little out there. I didn't really like the idea of a 13 year old recruiting people into Hell. I definitely wouldn't recommend this to anyone as a spiritual read (nor do I think it was written for that purpose!) but it certainly makes you think.
Very interesting perspective about Hell, and just plain life through the character of a 13-year old.
I have a signed, personalized copy of this book. I'll keep it for that reason, but I will not finish reading it. Like Madison, the main character in this simpering little novel tells you REPEATEDLY, I'm not stupid.
This book is hilarious if you happen t be between the ages of 14-18. As a full grown adult, I found the attempts at humor in this novel to be lame, easy and just plain not funny. Anyone can be tasteless, and if you want that to be "your thing", learn to do it better. I've said it before and I'll say it again. The very nice man, Chuck Palahniuk is a one trick pony. "Fight Club" was it.
Don't bother reading this. It's boring. It goes nowhere. It's hell.

After this mess, I feel just as emotionally stable as Lizzie Borden.
I enjoy some Chuck Palahniuk as much as the next guy, but this book was just not good. It came across as pointless to me and there was very little go grab onto in this story. We get it, the main character is "quirky" and beyond her years as a 13 year old. Not clever.
Can't wait until the sequel if there is one, I liked how toward the end I didn't want her to get out of hell, it seems so weird now but she was so much better of in hell, overall great book, would recommend.
I found myself relating a lot to Maddy but halfway through the book, it just got stupid. Oh well, such is the case with many of Palahniuk's later work. What the f*ck, Chuck?
I'm not sure that there is a clear plot but it was verbally clever enough to hook me. Just the idea that there are deserts of toenail clippings, lakes of feces, and other awful landmarks in hell is interesting.
The biggest take home message of the book is that both Earth and hell seem like hell, only because we expect both to be heaven. It is our personal disappoint with our situation that traps us.
