Why do I keep reading this series? I rolled my eyes so much, I thought they were going to get stuck.
The Heir is pretty much more of the same we've already seen in The Selection, only gender-swapped. Unlike Prince Maxon, however, Princess Eadlyn is downright unlikable - she's a spoiled self-centered brat, and it surprises her every single time someone calls her out on it or she realizes it on her own. Every other chapter: "I'm not self-centered! Gasp! Is it possible that I'm self-centered?"
The dialogue throughout the book is forced and unnatural. Also, what happened to America and Maxon? They don't even seem like the same characters we met in the previous books! Yes, they're older and have shouldered the burden of ruling Illea, but their personalities have been completely erased, and they're now generic weary monarchs/parents.
Let's pretend the series ended with The One.

What the hell. What the hell. What the hell.
I was tempted to rate this one generous star.
But, since this book has made me smile and giggle on many occasions, I gave it four.
IT WOULD HAVE BEEN FIVE, BUT-
KIERA CASS.
HOW LONG ARE YOU GOING TO MAKE THIS SERIES?
BUT.
EADLYN.
AND KILE.
AND-
MY OTP, MY SHIPPING!
THAT FRIGGIN ENDING!
YOU CANT END ON THAT.
I'm trying be rational, I really am.
But, Kiera Cass, you're just milking this series now.
You could have easily fit this into one book and I would have been happy.
Now, a sequel is kind of mandatory to my heart.
I WANT TO KNOW.
EADLYN AND KILE.
AMERICA.
AHREN AND CAMILLE.
WHAT-
WHERE IS THIS HEADING.
Okay, okay..
So, 4/5 stars.
The writing was dazzling as usual; although the protagonist was annoying at times, flaws are a must.
All I'm upset with- All that led me to ranting and questioning whether this even deserved one star is where the hell this ended. I'm sorry, but as cool as this series is, you're milking it.
All I wanted was a happy ending with my favorite pairing.
(Hint, hint: Kile & Eadlyn)
What do I get?
A humongous letter.
A devastating plot twist.
AND A DISAPPOINTING BONUS SCENE.
WHAT EVEN WAS THAT.
That is all I have to say..
-Sigh-

I enjoyed the first three Selection books, so I had to read this one too! This book follows America's daughter as she starts a Selection of her own. However, Eadlyn is not thrilled about selecting a husband, and is just doing the Selection to help calm the country.
I have to say, I disliked Eadlyn quite a bit at the start of this book. She was a manipulative, bratty character. However she started to have more likable moments, and by the end of the book I could see a glimpse of the character development (and improvement) that will probably come in the next book. Also, unlike America's story, I have no clue who she will end up with! I am excited to read the final book!
