Ohhh this was so lovely. Tender and sad, but ultimately hopeful. I mean... I am deceased, this part killed me:
Another trouble with breakups—the instant loss of the dozens of daily touches, the background tapestry of comfort, given and received. /.../ Grief went through me, but this time instead of crawling like sickness, it seemed to ring like bells over hard-frosted fields, plangent and clear. It wasn’t spineless, was it—not cowardly, pathetic, any of the other names I’d been calling myself? To weep for Joe, for this kind of loss; even briefly to want to die of it.
There was just this one scene where Matthew gets sexually assaulted that wasn't handled with the care it should have. The text actually refers it as "not rape" since there is no actual penetration happening, which is a very harmful notion that should be dismantled.
Moderate: Suicide attempt, Rape, and Sexual assault
Minor: Homophobia
