It was good but I probably wouldn't read it again. If I didn't have the visuals from tv show I would have had a pretty difficult time following it.

I did like that the author was able to almost write this like a thriller. Each game has me at the edge of my seat. It was also a bit of an emotional roller coaster with some really high high and some really low lows.

Also it's not listed high in the trigger warnings so there are racial slurs.

i really enjoyed this book, the author manages to keep a good pace even for a reader like me who knows nothing about chess. we find ourselves turning the pages faster and faster, to know what happens next.
the last chapters are amazing, we hold our breath waiting to see what Beth will do.

i can't give it 5 stars, however, because of some scenes that are very disturbing and the unnecessary racist slurs.

The utilization of the last two content warnings ⬇️ for shock factor and the white male gaze  says enough.

I wish it was longer pieces, even if the book was 400 pages. I enjoyed reading Beth's story and her approach. The pieces just didn't connect.

Great series, great book. Walter Tevis was ahead of his time. Beautiful social commentary and great representation of addiction, masterful writing and characters that you want to root for.

This book was beautifully written and difficult to put down. The Netflix series was pretty true to the book and I feel like most of the changes they made were for the better considering Beth’s age throughout the story.
I definitely did not expect there to be sexual assault between two minors in the first 15 pages. It was about a page and a half.
