Why Did I read this book?:
I picked it up at my library's booksale

What I loved: The twists and turns along with Sauniere's double meaning in everything made it a great thriller. I also enjoyed the characters especially Teabing. I seem to find out the end of thrillers far too early, however that was virtually impossible with this book.

What I hated: I was disappointed by Sophie, as she was dominated by the male characters in the book. Also I hated the ending and really wish there was a sequel.

Would I read more by this author: Yes I have most of his others books, but I need a break the adrenaline rush from this book was exhausting!

wow that was good!

I see why people both revere and hate this book (maybe if he didn’t start the book by saying yeah basically all of this is true people would be less upset lol). (okay after reading some reviews i actually want to emphasize this point that it is crazy the reactions people have to this book like i get that it became really popular and there’s a movie and everything but at the most basic level it is just a thriller by a guy in 2003. everybody including dan brown himself should recognize that. that’s a simplification of the issue but that’s where I’m coming from with my thoughts and review. I liked it because it was fun and the subject was interesting to me. it’s not the best most genius world reshaping book ever written or evil blasphemous drivel or even unenlightened pseudo intellectual preaching. it’s a fun fiction book!)

i really loved it. a real mystery action thriller with a backdrop of humanity, art, and religion that i absolutely gobbled up. i honestly don’t know why it took me so long to read this book with my life long affinity for hidden object games, history channel programs, religion, art, museums, and the national treasure movies. this book was right up my alley. i got to chapter 48, and i was already diving into wikipedia articles. i loved how there were so many chapters. it felt like rapidly cutting between scenes. the pace was perfect to me. i was both surprised at every turn, but also able to somewhat confidently make close guesses to what might happen next.
a bit like robert langdon in the end i just happened to guess the answer without really understanding how we might get there. of course i love the romantic undertones between langdon and sophie. i thought the end was really beautiful and satisfying. i kept wondering how dan brown was going to end the book. was he going to have them find the holy grail or make a definitive claim about where it was? i think he dealt with it perfectly. this book really reads like it is from 2003 and by a male thriller writer. i was chuckling to myself when the librarian was really explaining how searching the database worked
. i am glad to have finally read this. i guess i just needed to make my own book in code and take a firm step into a future in the museum world first. now that i have finished i have got some articles to read, some movies to watch (does tom hanks play robert langdon?), and maybe even some more books to read. thanks ms. sliwka for selling this to me for two dollars when you retired eight year ago.

After reading several nonfiction books in a row, I needed some thrilling fiction, a real page-turner. So I pulled this one off my library shelf, remembering that I’d stayed up late nights reading it many years ago. It did not disappoint. It’s not perfect; some plot twists and connections are too far-fetched to be believed, it’s wordy and could be 50 pages shorter, and the romantic ending is all too predictable. But the book really delivers in the storytelling, and I give it 5 stars for providing the entertainment I wanted!
