I can see why they are popular. Since he uses religion a lot and references ideas, people and groups even though its fictional and not real... they get people talking. I, for one, find any talk about ideas that influence religion and politics as a good thing. Anything that gets people doing so self research is never a bad thing especially if it allows them to see the world a little differently.
I can also see why the genre is referred to as "Thriller" fiction. The action moves quickly so its hard to get bored. However as a mystery novel is fails a bit, as in mystery novel all the facts should be presented, the conclusion should be available to the reader earlier on if they have the insight to spot it.

Aver riletto questo libro dopo tanti anni mi fa rimettere in prospettiva un libro che avevo divorato in un'unica giornata appena l'avevo comprato. Pensavo, la prima volta, ci fosse una buona ricerca di sottofondo – per la verità, non mi sono mai messa a ricercare io stessa partendo dagli input dati da questo libro, non so da dove mi fosse venuto questa supposizione. Pensavo ci fosse anche una certa logicità nelle parti misteriose, nelle spiegazioni date sul perché fosse accaduta una cosa rispetto ad un'altra. Dopo tanti anni ho però qualche conoscenza in più, posso ancora godere del libro? Certo, ignorando un bel po' di cose si può. Ma arrivata a “Il Priorato, come tante società segrete nemiche della Chiesa, considerava l'inglese una lingua “pura”. Diversamente dall'italiano, dal francese e dallo spagnolo, che derivano dal latino – la lingua del Vaticano – l'inglese era linguisticamente lontano dalla macchina propagandistica di Roma e per questo era diventata una lingua sacra, segreta, per i gruppi abbastanza istruiti per impararla”...mi è scappata una risata! Cioè, Danny, inventatene un'altra perché buona parte delle parole inglesi, quelle usate dai più istruiti, deriva proprio dal latino (e dal francese, così, per dire). Vabbè, diciamo che Brown non si è soffermato molto sulla logicità di alcune cose, resta comunque una lettura gradevole, in alcuni punti ti prende più che in altri e, comunque, ti fa dire “Voglio vedere dove vuole andare a parare, voglio vedere come va a finire” - che per un thriller è forse la cosa più importante, no? Però, dal 5 pieno che gli avevo dato d'acchitto alla prima lettura, ora direi un 3 su 5
The fake cliffhangers were so annoying and frankly I just wasn't interested enough in the story. Also I feel like I'm supposed to like Robert Langdon but he just annoyed me to no end.
