I really don't like paranormal thrillers, so the writing was good as usual but I didn't like the book

Even wennen zonder Helen dit keer.

"Adam realized that there was a fate worse than death... Life."

I loved everything about this one. I loved the idea of someone being able to see how people are going to die, and how that person deals with that ability. I did think the way some of the characters acted was a little odd, and unrealistic. But other than that, everything about this one was brilliant.
It's my first time reading a book from this author but I have lots on my shelf and can't wait to get to them.

A Gift for Dying is a unique thriller, revolving around Kassie, a girl who has the power to see when and how a person will die with one look in their eyes. Nobody believes her obviously, everyone marking her down as crazy, until Adam, a psychiatrist with his own problems, finds out she might tell the truth..

Let me begin by saying that I loved the supernatural element to that thriller, that made it really stand out for me. Kassie „gift“ - seeing the death of other people - is obviously a curse in our society, not even her own mother believes her, let alone the people she tries to warn or the police. I found it interesting to doubt myself whether her abilities were real or just made up. Not going to spoil anything here, but this added an additional layer of suspense for me.

The characters were okay, I didn’t like Detective Gabrielle Grey and also was kind of wary about Adam. Kassie, as mentioned before, I didn’t know if I could trust. The character I liked the most, was actually Faith, Adams wife. For me, especially in thrillers, it’s indifferent whether the characters are likable; the characters of A Gift for Dying were interesting and that’s what counts for me.

I was really invested in the story and the murders, MJ Arlidge’s writing style in one I love dearly, I would read everything he publishes.

Unfortunately the ending fell flat for me. The reveal of the muderer wasn‘t twisty enough for me and everything was very predictable. Everything leading up to the ending was amazing though, which is why I give this book 4/5 ⭐️
