Este libro es uno de los cinco estrellas de mi vida, un hogar al que volver, un sitio seguro en el que descansar.
Me da igual cuanto duela cada relectura, un trocito de mi se queda con Marina y Óscar cada vez que vuelvo. Y yo, se lo regalo sin reservas.
Sé que pronto estaré de vuelta en las embrujadas calles de Barcelona, recorreré las Ramblas de la época y respiraré la tranquilidad del cementerio de Sarriá. Habrá sombras acechando acechando y dragones vigilando cada uno de mis pasos.
Y que feliz seré de que así sea.
Porque al fin y al cabo, solo recordamos lo que nunca sucedió.

This definitely reads like it was the predecessor to The Shadow of the Wind, though unfortunately I can’t say that I enjoyed it nearly as much. One of my biggest pet peeves with gothic fiction is when the author doesn’t give me a believable reason for why these characters are willing to talk to and tell their personal stories to the main character, a stranger, and that is essentially the entire plot of this book. It felt like one arbitrary wild goose chase after the other. I was rolling my eyes so hard at the main plotline that I couldn’t even get emotionally invested in the character deaths that occur at the end. A highly disappointing read overall, though I will say this book did have its beautiful moments so I will give it credit for those
اول با تشکر از شقایق و گروه کتابخوانیش شروع کنم؛ چون اصلا نویسنده رو نمی‌شناختم و احتمالا سراغش نمیرفتم، ولی الان به نظرم نویسنده جالبی اومد.
اولای کتاب رو زیاد دوست نداشتم اما وسطای رو به آخرش رو دوست داشتم، داستان میخائیل رو خیلی خوب نوشته بود. آخرش هم باز اونطور که توقع داشتم نپرداخته بود.
داستان اشاراتی به یه سری کتاب های دیگه داشت که خب من تعداد کمیشون رو متوجه شدم مثلا فرانکنشتاین مری شلی و شبح اپرا و... ولی انگار به آثار دیگه خود نویسنده اشارات بیشتری داشت.
یه مشکلی با توصیفات کتاب داشتم که به نظرم به نسبت حجم کتاب زیاد بودند؛ شاید می‌خواسته گوتیک تر کنه فضا رو ولی به نظرم زیادی بود. یه سری چیز هم اون وسط با آپدیت ها نوشتم، مثلاً اینکه چرا همه افراد اون دنیا این‌همه به این دوتا نوجوون توجه میکردن و جواب میدادن.
در کل اوکی بود. با در نظر گرفتن اینکه یانگ‌ادالت بود حتا خوب بود.
نویسنده یه سری حرف جذاب داشت وسط داستانش که اونارو دوست داشتم. لزوما موافقشون نبودم، نوشته های جالبی بودن:

The piece of bread I was eating got stuck in my throat. I didn’t know what the word meant, but it sounded like an anarchist on a bike.

اگه بخوایم این کتاب رو به سه بخش آغازین، میانی و پایانی تقسم کنیم، شروع بدی نداشت. نویسنده با سبک همیشگی و جذاب خودش یک اتفاق رمزآلود رو توصیف می‌کنه و خواننده رو با قدرت به داخل داستان می‌کشه. به خاطر حجم کم کتاب خیلی روی رویدادها مکث نکرد، که به نظر من باعث شد بعضی اتفاق‌ها به اندازه ی کافی قوام پیدا نکنن و خوب بهشون پرداخته نشه. به طور کلی نظر من اینه که اگه فرصت نیست به هر موضوع به اندازه‌ای که لازمه بپردازی، پس شاید لازم نباشه انقدر اطلاعات و ماجراهای مختلف رو وارد داستان کنی؟
بخش میانی که اصولا یکی از مهم‌ترین بخش‌های یه کتابه، از نظر من بیشترین نقص رو داشت. همونطور که گفتم، توی کتاب مارینا خلاف کتاب سایه‌ی باد نویسنده برای پردازش و مزه مزه کردن رمز و رازها، پلات و موضوعات اصلی وقت و دقت زیادی نذاشت. در عوض خیلی سریع و عجولانه سعی کرده بود مطالب رو بیان کنه و قدم به قدم توضیحات رو بده و سر و ته موضوعات رو به هم بیاره. البته ممکنه بگید که بی‌انصافی می‌کنم، و فکر می‌کنم این کمی به این خاطره که کتاب قبلی انتظارات من رو بالا برده بود. توی اون کتاب که تقریبا هفتصد و خورده‌ای صفحه بود، واقعا نظم و ترتیب و شیوه‌ی چینش همه چیز هنرمندانه و قدرتمند بود.
موضوع کتاب جذاب بود، ایده قدرتمند بود. ولی به خاطر همین خوب کار نشدن بعضی جاها حتی منطق داستان شکننده و نازک می‌شد و به سختی می‌تونست سر پا بمونه. و به گونه‌ای به نظر می‌رسید که این اثر، فارغ از زمان نوشته شدنش، شبیه یک اثر تمرینی برای سنجش قدرت ماهیچه‌ها و عضلات خیال نویسنده بوده. که قبلا موقع خوندن سایه‌ی باد بهم ثابت شد که واقعا عضلات قدرتمندی هستند.
واضحه که من عاشق سبک کارلوس روئیث تافونم. چینش پشت سر هم رازها، ماجراها و قصه‌های مختلف و در هم تنیده شدن این‌ها در لایه‌های مختلف یک سبک خاص و زیبا رو ایجاد می‌کنه که مختص خودشه، و من هیچ جای دیگه‌ای این رو ندیدم. و هرچند تا حدی با خوندن این کتاب ناامید شده بودم، ولی بخش پایانی کتاب من رو از ناامیدی خارج کرد. واقعیت رو بگم، پایان کتاب کاری کرد که حتی بخش‌های ضعیف کتاب هم ارزشش رو داشته باشن. زیبا، تاثیرگذار و غم‌انگیز بود، و خیلی خوب بیان شده بود. البته اگه کتاب رو بخونید متوجه می شید که این بخش بخشیه که رمز و رازها تموم شدند و به شخصیت‌های اصلی می پردازه. که ای کاش بخش بیشتری به این موضوع اختصاص پیدا کرده بود.
+متاسفانه ترجمه‌ی این کتاب اصلا به دلم ننشست.

I couldn't stop reading it.
I loved the dark mystery.
I loved the setting of the story because I love Barcelona and I loved to walk those streets with Zafón's words.
I just don't give it 5 stars because it sells itself as 'in may of 1980 I disappeared for entire week' and that premise is actually insignificant, I thought it would be the big mystery. That in the end all pf the book happened during that week, but no, that week is a line in the middle of a thousand words that actually are this story.

Óscar es un personaje humano que a lo largo de todo el libro nos narra esa historia que sucedió hace 15 años y que se quedó en su corazón hasta el día de hoy.
Una mezcla interesante entre el suspenso y la novela rosa que te tiene al borde del asiento y que se lee en una sentada.
(Y con un claro guiño hacia los que han leído la novela de Frankenstein de Mary Shelley)
