I...wow, this was one depressing book. It's an intriguing blend of mystery, love, and horror. Zafon's descriptions of Barcelona were fantastic, and now I want to visit the city even more, but I felt like too much of the novel was telling. It took a little bit for me to get into the story, but once I did, I became totally engrossed--that is, until I figured out one of the subplots because I thought the hints were too obvious. I did not, however, come close to predicting the other major twist, the one that decided it wanted to break my heart. One last thing--am I just weird, but

Precioso y triste. No pude evitar llorar
mysterious medium-paced

I love a good gothic novel, and Marina does not disappoint.
