The Ten Loves Of Mr Nishino is about him sleeping around with other women while claiming that he falls in love with every woman he meets. I liked that the stories were told through the eyes of the women he met rather than Nishino who I didn't find charming or funny in any way. It seemed that the women in this book had much more personality than Nishino himself.

I was expecting that Nishino's view on love would change with each woman he met. That his view on love would change. Where he would eventually find a way to commit to a woman he falls for. It seemed to me that Nishino was really just a womaniser and that there is nothing more to his character than that.

However the character of Nishino doesn't take away from the way the author wrote this book. There were some nice and thoughtful statements woven throughout. I felt like Nishino was just a place holder so that the woman's stories about love could really be told.

Oh I loved this book. Mostly because every woman in it was the mistress of her own destiny. Kawakami is a gifted storyteller and I really enjoyed each of these vignettes. The one constant being Nishino as the title suggests. This books says a lot about how Japanese women are reclaiming their power. I loved reading these women’s accounts of their love affairs with Nishimo. Unexpected and clever, I was sad to reach the end.
