I freaking loved this! Never did I think I would love a story about Santa’s origins so much. But it had everything I love in it; magic, sword fights, and a wolf I would die for!

So yeah, I loved Morrison's retelling of the Santa Claus myth. One part Viking lore, one part German myth, and one part grimdark medieval fantasy, it had a certain kind of fairy tale feel to it that I love, providing oblique glances at the modern-day story, along with gorgeous art by Dan Mora. As a bonus, there's also an appearance by my favorite Christmas party crasher, the ever-popular Krampus.
I'm a couple of years late reading this one, but it was just what I needed to put me into the Christmas spirit.

Pretty simple story with cool art. At times the plot seemed disjointed as if some pages were missing.

If you had told me Grant Morrison did a gritty origin story of Santa involving hallucinogens mixed in with some Dragonlance flavors, I’d would’vebeen skeptical. But goddamn, this is a fun read!

An entertaining retelling/origin story. Lots of action, high stakes, solid artwork.

So all of those stars are for the art, which is gorgeous. The assignment for this GN was "how can we make Santa Claus COOL" and nobody lost sight of that goal, even when they decided the answer was turning him into a Batman/Superman hybrid. Edgy? Check. Vigilante? Check. Sketchy quasi-alien/magic background? Check. Love story turned tragic because people don't fucking talk to each other? Check. Animal sidekick? Check. Family values? Check. Extremely fond, lingering shots of the hero's perfectly beefy physique? Oh honey, a checkmark on every dang page.
I got this from the library, so I'm not mad about spending money on it.
