I’m not usually a big graphic novel reader, but I’m so happy I decided to pick this one up! Tommie Smith is an amazing storyteller, and combined with the wonderful illustrations I felt as if I was right there with him as he told about his life. The main reason why I’m giving Victory. Stand! four stars instead of five is that I felt that the section taking place after the Olympics was very rushed, and I would’ve liked to have seen more of Tommie’s life in the 70s and 80s. But aside from that, the story flowed very smoothly, and I loved that Tommie included aspects of his faith throughout! This book is so accessible and has so many different layers, I definitely recommend it!

You know, I think if more nonfiction was in graphic novel form, I would read so much more of it. You can tell important stories in graphic novel format, and I'm so glad that more and more of them are happening. I honestly didn't know much about this story before jumping into this book, but there is so much to love about it.

Fans of graphic novels like March will definitely enjoy this one, I can see why it got so much buzz when it came out at the end of the year last year. It's a fairly quick read, but packed with information about segregation, especially how it related to sports and the Olympics.

The illustrations throughout were also great! I enjoyed how they depicted the track meets and such. It felt like they were moving, even though they weren't. If you're looking for a good graphic novel informational read, I recommend picking this one up!

This is so good and so powerful. I knew about the picture and what it meant, but I didn't know the story behind the athletes. So good.
