I see why this one won so many awards--it is beautifully constructed, both text and images and such an interesting memoir and piece of history. I had seen the famous photo from the 1968 Olympics, but didn't know much about the story behind it. This book does a fantastic job introducing the reader to the historical context, as well as the personal thought process of participating in the protest, as well as what the consequences of that protest were. It does deal with some hard topics, but in a very honest and forthright way. For example, there is a lynching portrayed on page, so readers should be ready to deal with that truth of history. However, I think this is a book that will interest sports readers, graphic novel readers, and history readers, but should be read by so many more. Recommend middle school and up.
