This book made me feel anxious and uncomfortable about the situation the MCs put themselves in and emotions involved. Can’t say I enjoyed it much. And I felt so bad for Eden, don’t think the author intended it to go that way. I couldn’t shake the regret of how that relationship could’ve turned out if she didn’t reject Clay in the first place. Given that half a year later she threw all caution to the wind anyway, what was the point 🤷🏻♀️ Now only there is another person in the mix and it grated on my nerves the entire time. I think I would’ve liked it if Clay and Jade, as a couple, wanted to add Eden to the mix but with them having history it felt awkward and weird.
I liked being in Clay’s head during the scenes in the past but at the same time in present at the beginning it put me off how he constantly tired to make Eden confirm her feelings towards him when he was already in another relationship. Hard to understand what his goal was, when there were no thoughts of them all being together. It’s such a mess.
Also I felt a little hostile towards Jade as if she was an outsider imposing on a relationship. I just didn’t believe in Clay’s love for Jade, I couldn’t feel it. I did believe in it when it came to Eden though. This was such a conundrum and it felt so off. I think it’s a me problem as I didn’t want Jade anywhere near this and just wanted Clay and Eden to figure it out.
I couldn’t overcome how much all those interactions between the three of them at times reminded me of betrayal and even cheating (even if emotional). This was rectified later on in the story, but the first 30ish% left me unhappy and it was hard to change the gears further on. By the end of it, I was just irritated and frustrated with this trio. I’m afraid, this one wasn’t for me.
