💭My thoughts:
A hustler conning multiple women is someone who definitely deserves to pay, and in this story, we meet one I wanted to punch more than once while reading 😂. It was both entertaining and infuriating (why are some women so trusting?!). I’ve heard of things like this happening in real life, so it didn’t feel too far fetched, though hopefully, it’s not a common occurrence.
Some people are just narcissistic manipulators who know exactly how to target vulnerable people, and unfortunately, they often get away with it far too easily. That’s part of what made the story so gripping, the constant tension of wondering when or if he’d be exposed.
I really liked the short chapters, which made it easy to fly through the book, and the way the different storylines came together was really well done. It kept me turning the pages to see how everything would connect. “Nick” was so thoroughly unlikeable!Jewell did an excellent job making him feel real in the worst way. Overall, this was a fun, quick read, perfect if you’re in the mood for something twisty, and bingeable.

I understand that we were being shown just how destructive a single person was, but there were WAY too many characters and storylines going in this book for it to be effective for me. I chose to do this one on audio and was lost 90% of the book. I would have needed a damn map of characters and timelines for this to make sense in the way I wanted it to. I would have dnfd had I not used an audible credit

This book was exactly what I needed to break out of a reading slump. Gripping from the very first page, Lisa Jewell weaves tension, mystery, and character dynamics so well that I found myself completely hooked. The pacing was perfect—no dragging, just twist after twist that kept me saying “one more chapter”.
The emotional impact was real—especially the hatred I felt for the main character!
A perfect, binge-worthy thriller that reminds me why I love reading in the first place.
