This novella was so heartbreaking, so tragic, but oh so beautiful. I hadn’t realized it was meant to be read as book one, I read it as 1.5, & I loved gleaning more information about Odrin’s past. His story told from his perspective as he grows & embraces his past mistakes is so beautiful. & while I knew what was coming, it really did nothing to quell the heartache. Bra-freaking-vo.

When we were first introduced to Odrin in The Night and It’s Moon, we didn’t know much about his backstory. Here, we learn more about his life, and the pain he has endured. What he has sacrificed as a Reever, and a human.

How to break my heart in 46 pages:
1. Read Odrin’s story.
This beautiful backstory for Odrin gives such a perfect amount of substance to his character and fully supports his interactions within the main novels. I absolutely adored learning how deeply he loves. The details in this story are what really makes it special they had my heart thumping so hard. My favourite part of this writing is how Odrin’s love and loss is recreated when he meets Amaris in book one. It is so intimate and gives you even more access to Piper’s exciting realm of characters.

Anyone who read the first book will know this is a sad story, so I was surprised that despite knowing what to expect, I still balled my eyes out. A masterful little story that really can stand alone apart from the book these characters sprung from.

What the hell Piper? I was having a perfectly lovely day and a perfectly lovely read until my heart was torn open and I cried for half an hour in Starbucks?!!?!? I mean this in the best way possible but you ruined my life in 45 pages.
