EEEEEEE I LOVED IT!!! I wish I could read about Ash and Amarante’s wedding so badly GUHHHHH
A very cute story, perfect for middle grade readers and young adults (or older) alike! Sometimes the dialogue can be a bit awkward/corny but overall I enjoyed it quite a bit and it appealed a lot to my inner child. It gave me Ella Enchanted vibes, full with magic, intrigue, mystery and romance. It's not a masterpiece of literature but it achieves what it sets out to do and I will certainly be reading the sequel

I like this book, but I started reading it because people recommended it as cozy fantasy. This is NOT cozy.
This is a mixture of Bridgerton (thankfully minus sex), witchcraft and Game of Thrones level scheming. All with mortal danger, high stakes for the entire realm, a good portion of (on screen) torture and the genretypical racism against non-humans. While the definition of cozy is still a bit wobbly and unclear, usually at least the lack of high stakes is considered THE most important factor - and here we have someone trying to take over the kingdom. That's in no way a lack of high stakes.
Anyway, while I would've expected more actual herbwitching and more plant punk and learning of magic, this was a pleasant read. (Maybe except for the 20 percent when the situation the protagonist found herself in got bad and worse and even worse. While that's the classic formula for books, I can't bring myself to be anything but annoyed by this part of any plot.)
