Interesting ideas about magic and how it works and the plot is OK. It's let down by very stilted conversations between characters and a fairly unbelievable main character. Not a bad read but i'm not going to rush out and read the next one.

The world-building is so simplistic and naive that I have to wonder if the author either don’t think there is worth to put in the effort for a YA or that YA can’t have a bit of depth to the world.
The prose is a bit basic and really should benefit from a editor.
