Gosh I wish they’d kept the narrator from book 1. WHY a different narrator for each book?!?! The first one was amaze.

Firstly, I have to say that I liked the book even better than the first one. Magnus as the main character is extremely funny but he can also address serious topics. Rick Riordan's wiriting stlyle makes the book extremely easy to read and makes you want to read more and the plot was quite a choice I have to say but I really liked it at the end of the book and the new characters that were introduced were really cool and I hope we see more of them. In general all the characters have actually developed a lot and grown and now have to face one last challenge in the last book and I'm not ready for the fact that we're almost done with the Magnus Chase characters so quickly!?

The little teaser at the end of the book with Annabeth that Percy is coming makes me really excited to see what kind of mashup is coming, but at the same time it also said that this book takes place during the trails of Apollo. That means Jason isn't dead yet and on one hand I want that this going to be addressed somehow, but on the other hand I'm not ready for it. The love story between Samirah and Amir is super sweet and that he can finally see the magical world after Sam tried to convince him for so long. Alex as a new character is really interesting too, especially with the themes like transgender and the fluid identity which is addressed and since the book is also aimed at a young audience, which I think is very important to show them that it’s okay. Also that the topic of Samirah's religion and Magnus Atheism shows how all of that can exist at the same time, I think was actually incorporated pretty well. Not perfectly of course. The books are also a bit older and you can tell they're from their time, but I have to say it was still well written into the story. I would have loved to have seen more of Thor and Loki together, but maybe something like that will be shown in the last book!

uncle rick at it again!

I really gotta go back and re read all the pjo and hoo books to see how much of this set up has been there since he beginning. (I don't think I'll have time for that any time soon though!)

the cast of characters here is so diverse!

sometimes it gets a little wild but I appreciate everything about it though. the plot had me going but overall really good.

I think that the tie ins work so well together and I'm exited for the next Apollo book as well. I'm impressed. that's it.

what else you got for us Rick?

I'm ready.

I think there is a cynical way to interpret the inception of this story, considering how similar it is to the other books in Riordan's roaster whilst also introducing a strikingly diverse cast. But to me this feels like a kind author hearing about identities other than his own and going "heck yeah, that's awesome, of course I have to include that in my world!" (and, simultaneously, "oh, and if the supernatural world is going haywire, it is doing so on all levels of the mythological realm") and that makes perfect sense to me, is adorable, and very nice to read about. I'm not saying this book blew me away but it did entertain me and cheer me up a little when I didn't even know that I'd need it.

On a side-note, I went into this book thinking that I had forgotten everything about the first book. I trusted that I'd be filled into the most important details anyway, but more than that I ended up remembering most of the first book on my own as the story unfurled. I mention this as a compliment to the story-telling that does just enough catching-up to jostle the brain into action.

After finishing October with the story of Chafles Manson on the account of Tate-LaBianca killings, this surely a refreshing read and a good choice, on my part, to start a new month.
I mean, come on, modern day Demigods... and a very good cliffhanger ending. Dammit
