3.4 AVERAGE

It’s very inspiring to hear how she maintains such a positive outlook. Her pure joy at doing all these “firsts” that so many of us take for granted is contagious. It’s humbling to listening to talk about how lucky she is to get to enjoy all things when she could just as easily be bitter and no one would blame her. What a great reminder that life is all about how we view it.

I am so happy she is living a good life, she deserves it.

While there aren't any groundbreaking insights, it's heartwarming to see that she is doing well and living a normal and fulfilling life after the horror of her upbringing.

After reading “A Stolen Life: A Memoir by Jaycee Dugard”, I decided to read her second book “Freedom: My Book of  First”. After learning about the horrors she lived through, I wanted to know how she was doing after her return. This book is the perfect way to learn about that, without reading any lies or theories online.

Learning about all the different things she finally got to do once being freed, was both heartwarming and heartbreaking. Heartwarming because she finally got to experience these things, but heartbreaking because she was robbed of experiencing them when she should have. It’s also heartbreaking to learn about all the things she missed out on, and will never get to experience due to her age, such as high school dances like homecoming and prom.

I loved learning that they used her love of horses and riding as therapy for Jaycee. She was able to learn so much while being able to be in a happy place. I also love how strong she became. She didn’t let 18 years of captivity break her. Instead she got back up and formed a foundation that helps others that went through terrible experiences like her. She even went on a mission trip to help a village in need.

All in all, I really enjoyed Freedom: My Book of First. I think it was great to see how successful Jaycee became along with how she handled everything. It really shows how strong people can be and how they can do so much. I definitely think you should give this book a read, especially if you read her first book.
