Delight!

Daphne works two jobs; one with the supernaturals at the Archive as a sex historian and another one with a college where she hopes to come a professor soon. But when the college job fails, she decides to dedicate her work to the Archive.

The Archive is a sort of a Warehouse 13 -esque place, working in uncovering artifacts and after the death of their former director, in fixing what she did wrong to the supernatural community at large.

Fraser MacDonald, a werewolf with a possible artifact problem amongst his clan is thrown together with Daphne when the new director of the Archive decides she’s the best asset to uncover what is ailing the werewolf clan. They agree on Daphne going uncover as his mate. A bite is only a bite right? Wrong.

I love love love the Warehouse 13 vibes in this books. Magical artifacts mixed with the paranormal is perfect! I also really enjoyed Daphne and Fraser both, especially his deep brogue. Their connection is very steamy from the get-go, even if he acts a bit like an eejit with her credentials.

There is plenty of action packed into this story as well and it’s balanced so well with the tender moments between our main couple. They both have insecurities from the past but they only enhance the connection they share.

Loved reading this one!

Tropes:

This was my very first monster romance. I had no expectations but I was sure that I would have a good time while reading

If you’ve been here a while then you know that I’m obsessed with Scotland and that, given the choice, I’m always team wolf/werewolf. So when I realized that Fraser MacDonald (the MMC) was a grumpy Scottish Werewolf… I

This book is HOT HOT HOT.

Scottish Werewolf gone practically primal - ✅
Sunshiney heroine - ✅
Extremely Steamy Tension ✅✅
All the Smutty Goodness✅✅✅✅✅

This was my first Were Romance and I can say this definitely kept me up to read more and more.

This is an extension from an earlier series by Heinrich and it was well done!

I didn't realize I should have read the previous series before reading this one. The background for the main character threw me off and made it difficult for me to get immersed back into the world. I might come back to read it, I might not. We will see.

The story was okay overall

Pros:
I liked the Scottish dialogue
I liked Reggie and the ghost (not in the story for long)
The romance was quite nice

Cons:
The climax/battle scene thing was too easy? It was just really short and I was expecting a bit more
I dislike the word "cunny"
At one point when they were kissing I believe she called him a Beast (he was furry) in her head and that gave me an ick

Solving the mystery was NOT a focal point imo, so if that's what grabbed you tis may not be the book for you. The plot otherwise was enough for me. I just really wish the climax was more climactic

I am interested in the continuation of the artifact adventure however, and I would absolutely love it if maybe reggie and the ghost had a story/one shot sumn sumn later on.

I really enjoyed this book. It was great watching the push and pull between Daphne and Fraser with the fake day ring layer added in. Also the little bits and pieces of info about artifacts and the Archive were really cool and I am hoping we get to see and learn more about them as the series goes on. I really loved a lot of the side characters. I hope we get to see more of them in the future books as the main focus or as retuning side characters (Reggie and Peter 👀).
