I have mixed feelings of this book. I found it to be wholesome and the characters very likeable but I just didn’t get the same heartwarming experience I did from Brian’s other novels. This was more of a creative science lesson told partly through his great illustrations. It’s just not really my thing, but I see the vision and it is well done.

I went into this book cold and loved the beginning of it. It was engaging, poetic, and wait! Is that a dinosaur?! The setting is terrific and the inclusion of real science is perfect. Unfortunately, the plot and characters are so beyond dull that they drag everything down. The two leads are worse than two dimensional. Their personalities can be boiled down to “let’s go to the mountain!” And “I hear voices!” It’s a book whose contents I will completely forget within a few months. It’s a shame, too, because it had such promise and the art was so beautiful, especially as it creeps into the white pages for the first time like nature has a tendency to do.

Another fun story by this author combining his skill of writing & illustrating to weave a visual and captivating story. It follows 2 sibling seedlings as they’re separated from their Mother tree and must find a good spot to stretch their roots. The book is based off scientific facts and includes an informative afterword to explain it all to readers.

Loved it! I'll be using this to teach plant growth and changes with my students.
