This book deserves a "meh". I know plenty of women who love the book and the movie but I'm more on the fence about liking it or not. Bridget was very whiny, down on herself and completely obsessed with men. She tangles her self-worth in with how much she weighs and whether or not she has a boyfriend.
Maybe that's okay when you're 20 but not when you're a 30-something. She thinks she's fat and she weighs 125 pounds, give me a break. I found myself not liking her and getting really sick of her whining and her "woe is me" personality.
About halfway through I got a little bit into the story and decided to finish but I would definitely not read it again. I was rather dissapointed since I'd heard such good things about it.

I was so surprised by how much I enjoyed this book. The cover is very unassuming and not the typical style I'm usually drawn to. This was recommended by a friend who read a few quotes out which caught my interest; I then proceeded to buy the first two books and they are brilliant. Although there are aspects that haven't aged particularly well, this novel covers the insecurities and brutal failures of Bridget where there is always some kind of drama occurring. I'd recommend this to anyone who enjoys female lead comedies and just wants a good laugh!
I wonder if I would have enjoyed this more if I had read the book before seeing the movie. It was okay-had it’s funny moments. How I do enjoy the movie though...
-1 Star: Retelling/Predictable
Though it is essentially an Austen retread, the steely (if miss-placed) optimism of Bridget Jones is hopelessly endearing. There's a little of her in all of us, that is comforting and relatable. I think the story is a bit thin (or familiar) and predictable, but every time I think about it I smile.

Book Darcy can get it… Authoritative man, quiet, funny, loyal?!
Bridget is just so relatable and funny and this book was so beyond its years. Its still relatable to the younger generation of women
