Took me way too long to read this classic piece of literature. A delightful and hilarious read. I wish I could be friends with Bridget Jones.

I hated this book. I found it overly sentimental, dull, and poorly written. I had no sympathy for Bridget Jones, her diary, her family, or her love interests. Mostly I found her vapid, annoying and plagued by idiocy.

I'm not a fan of journal-style novels, I'll admit that freely, but even someone "not-a-fan" can understand the appeal of the format. I've even enjoyed the format. The problem here was not with the style chosen (or even the plotline) but with the way the author wrote and the utter lack of interest she inspired in me about her characters.

That being said, after having bashed my way through this novel and going through mild periods of interest just long enough to let me reach the end, I went out and rented the movie, curious (perhaps morbidly so) to see if the movie was as bad. It was not, in fact, the movie lived up to every expectation I'd had for the book that had not been reached.

I'm not sure why there was such a disconnect for me with this book. All I know is, I really didn't like it and I don't recommend it to anyone.

Not a masterpiece, but it's good to pass the time. In this case, I like the movie best!(I wonder why? :-D)

This book was very hit and miss for me. Bridget is repeatedly called a feminist by her friends and family, but the way that she acts doesn't seem very much so to me. She is difficult to like as a character due to her constantly trying to find a boyfriend and obsession with losing weight, but Fielding's humor is enjoyable for me on the other hand.

Read as a bit of light fluff to counterpoint my current difficult literary read, this was actually alright. It's engaging and fun, albeit dated and a little problematic in parts.
