Deeper Than The Dead by Debra Webb is an engaging start to what promises to be an exciting series. This murder mystery keeps readers on their toes with a gripping plot that’s full of unexpected twists and turns. The story constantly misdirects you, and just when you think you’ve figured out the identity of the murderer, Webb pulls the rug out from under you. The abundance of red herrings keeps the suspense high and ensures you’re always second-guessing yourself.
What sets this book apart is the unpredictable nature of the story—more than once, I was certain I had the killer pegged, only to be proven wrong. It’s always refreshing to be caught off guard in a genre that can sometimes fall into predictable tropes.
However, as much as I enjoyed the mystery itself, I found that some of the dialogue felt a bit stiff and inorganic. The character interactions occasionally lacked the natural flow that would have fully immersed me in the narrative. While this didn’t ruin my overall experience, it did prevent the book from achieving a perfect rating.
All in all, Deeper Than The Dead is a compelling start to a series, and despite a few dialogue missteps, it’s a strong read. I’ll definitely be keeping an eye out for the second book in the series to see where Webb takes the story next. If you enjoy twisting mysteries with plenty of surprises, this one is worth picking up.

I had a really hard time getting into this book. The first half felt really repetitive to me. Once I hit the halfway point, the story started to come together for me and I was interested to see how it would all pan out.
