I was under the impression this book was either a thriller or a mystery. It certainly is not a thriller. It is a mystery, but more than that is a romance, which is not what I was expecting.

The story follows Veronnica Peters, “Ronni,” who is the owner of Petra Energy Resources, now that her father, the company founder, has passed away. Ronni has a stalker, and hired Cotton Hammond, a Private Investigator, to find out who the stalker is and why he is stalking her. Cotton has done work for the company and for Ronni’s dad for many years, but Ronni is hiring him for her personal business this time.

I won’t spoil the story, but there are some long-term employees who are stealing money from Petra Energy and will stop at nothing to get rid of Ronni and not be caught.

The book was not bad, but not great either. I wished the characters had been better developed. I never felt like I knew Cotton nor Ronni, despite the entire story being centered on them. The dialogue was uncreated as every character sounded alike.

As a native of the Dallas area, I did enjoy that the story was set in Dallas and the author was accurate with details of the setting, including streets, buildings, and landmarks. That made the story ring very true to its location, at least.

The ending was a little anticlimactic as it was predictable from early on. So no big surprise or reveal or twist there. Not a great read, but worth the time.
