Elinor is such a beautiful character and her relationships with her sisters, mother and mother-figure Mrs Jennings are so warm. But the eventual romantic relationships leave something to he desired. Edward is shy but frustrating and though I can't help but love Colonel Brandon in his tenderness and kindness, I constantly struggled to root for his attraction to the teenage Marianne. It feels like she settles for him in the end, feeling pressured by all around her, and though he is ultimately a good man, her true love story is wiry Willoughby, although I'm glad they never marry.

My Review:
This was the first Jane Austen book I have read and honestly, I can understand why a lot of people like this classic novelist. Sense and Sensibility was interesting as it followed three sisters in a rural part of the countryside. Two of the sister’s happened to be looking for bachelors.
I have to constantly remind myself of the time period, cause I don’t think anyone in their right mind at this day and age would be selling off their 17-year-old daughter to a middle-aged man. I also have to put in perspective that most of these young girls were sought out because of their family name and not because they were attractive or that these men actually saw women for their personalities.
Honestly, it puts a harsh reality on what these men would do to women during this time. It was never about whether they cared, the women’s intelligence or the fact their personality matched theirs. It was literally sometimes about the money and when money isn’t there, most of these men want no part. Besides the men in this book, Jane Austen shows how strong the women of this time period were. There wasn’t exactly a whole lot of romance as there was more of a social aspect to this book.
I did enjoy this book, but I am not so sure I would read it again. I plan on reading some of her other works and hopefully I enjoy those novels a little bit more than this one. I know Pride and Prejudice seems to be the favorite of Jane Austen novels so I have high hopes for that one.
