Interesting, and outstanding short story, I learned a lot of Jewish beliefs and traditions through this short story. Also very vivid and intriguing sort of historical feel to it. I'm very pleased that I came across it. If you guys want to read something quick and interesting, this is a must read.

Veronica Schanoes's Burning Girls is a compelling twist on fables of Jewish mysticism. Anyone who's read enough stories about witches and magic can probably guess what's coming, but it still sucked me in and the denouement hit me in the gut.
Deborah is a witch who has been trained in the use of her powers by her grandmother in their small Polish village. Fleeing persecution, Deborah and her sister Shayna make their way to America, where they must start anew. Deborah uses her powers only to heal, but their family is plagued by a malevolent presence, and it takes all of Deborah's powers to protect them.
Like I said, if you've read enough fables, you can probably guess what's coming, although the journey is still absorbing. Schanoes writes in a way that makes the characters almost real, skillfully weaving actual history with fairy tales. A short read, but a good one. I give this one an A.

Really liked the characters and how it seems to mix religion and folklore.

A really, really good short story. The last sentence shocked me. Definitely worth reading.
