This is a collection of 20-21 short stories written by Satyajit Ray. All of them are so good, best ones that I liked - The hungry Septous, Bipin Chowdhury's lapse of memory, Barin Bhowmick's Ailment, Indigo and all the ghost stories in the book.
Special mention and my favorite in the collection - Patol Babu Film star. This story I read in school and was impressed back then but after re-reading it, it impressed me a lot more.

If you have seen his films, the short stories carry the exact same vibe. The collection has super-natural elements, aliens, man-eating plants, dinosaurs, time travel, and relatable characters in simple language. The medium-paced book is a good pick if you plan to read a light short story every day, want something nostalgic, or are a young reader. Unfortunately, I could not push myself to finish the collection.

Gripping, funny and spine tingling at the same time.
Ray is as much a master of the written word as he is of the rolling camera.
Looking forward to more of his classic stories.

This is a collection of short stories from the master story teller Satyajit Ray, a true legend unto himself. And he does not disappoint with this collection at all.
These are stories that are super natural, bizarre, quirky and even some truly inexplicable in nature but definitely make a great read. It describes Calcutta (and I use this name deliberately) in those days and the various quirks of its people in such a wonderful manner that you are actually transported to that land and experiencing everything with the narrator of each story. While some of the stories are truly wonderful, some according to me were too bizarre and therefore I just could not get myself to give it a 4 star rating.
I do wish however, that I could read Bengali as I am sure some of the nuances would have been lost in translation. However, I have to admit that the translation was pretty good.
However, if you are in a mood for some short stories, especially on a rainy day.. try this book, you will be enthralled.
