The stories were not convincing in their own right and I didn't feel like they were teasing out interesting aspects of the myths. The feminism presented in the book seems outdated as well.

umm so i would actually rate this a 3.8 maybe? i thought the retold stories were written so beautifully, particularly Osun and Attem.
i felt like the magic of the book waned slightly when there were references to modern-day pop culture, they seemed very awkwardly placed in my opinion. i also did find the book to be repetitive — it was an anthology of love stories so it did get predictable after a while. i think it would have been more interesting (and less repetitive) if more types of love were explored.
overall, while it was repetitive and some stories paled in comparison to the others, the prose was delightful to read and the concept extremely refreshing. i’m looking forward to reading more from the author!

GREAT short stories that are fun, swoonily romantic retellings of myths from many different cultures around the world. Babalola has a particular talent for creating rich, lush worlds in the space of a few pages and I can’t wait to see what she does next!

Empowering easy read collection of romance short stories. Really interesting interpretation of classic tales and myths. I would’ve liked more lgbtq+ representation

This collection was just as vivid and colorful as its cover and I was not disappointed! Nothing prepared me for the absolute delight that was the characters and following their stories. Each story is so distinct and engaging, I found myself immersed in worlds overflowing with rich imagery and emotions. A couple stories I even want extended to novels—that’s how hooked I was! Will definitely be buying the physical copy to reread and tuning into Babalola’s work from here on out.
