I would have liked this book a lot more if it had focused on Kell, Rhy and Alucard more, and less on Lila. But the ending left me curious to see what happens next, so I guess I'll continue when book 3 comes out.

❤︎ This is way more better than the first book and one of the reason why is because of Alucard!

I started this book on november 8th, 2020 and finished it on january 28th 2021... i think it says a lot about how boring the beginning is (i usually take around a week at most to read a book). The tournament is supposed to be the central part of the book but it doesn’t start until around page 350 (and even after that, the tournament was pretty boring? there was all this fuss about it but in the end it wasn’t that good.)

Still, I think this book can be read pretty quickly, i was just reading other books at the same time and let’s say it wasn’t the most enthralling one.

What kept me going is V.E. Schwab’s prose, because i just LOVE her writing seriously every sentence is DELECTABLE.

Other than that ... I liked Kell, Alucard and Rhy, but Lila... I’m sorry. I really TRY to like female characters more but they’re either useless and whiny or so badass and strong it’s their only personality trait. Lila falls into the second category. How many times did she say she was « one of a kind » or « not like other girls » ... seriously, ugh! She’s so sure of herself it’s annoying. And i have nothing against confident characters, but apart from that her character didn’t have much depth.

I’ll read book three either way, not really bc i’m curious about how this end but because i don’t like leaving series unfinished and it isn’t //that/// bad.
