After watching the series, the book is quite superficial. I expected a deeper character analysis, but most of their personalities are made up or further developed in the show. Inexistent in the book. I wanted to get to know Mirren and Johnny a bit better :(

Overall, quite a lot missing from the series and no new information.

This book had the potential to be a lot more than it was. The plot twist at the end was pretty well-done and I definitely didn't see it coming. Not a huge fan of the writing style and it's REALLY heavy-handed with the metaphor (to the point of it being a distraction). I also think there was an opportunity for it to be good disability representation with Cadence's chronic pain/migraines, but that was barely touched on or addressed throughout the book other than mentions of her missing events or having to take drugs.

This book is “hauntingly” beautiful to say the least. At first I found it kinda boring and I didn’t like the writing style. I was confused with the timelines but as the story progressed, it became more intriguing for me and when I reached last part, holy shit everything made sense and it really shookt me to say the least. This book is not for everyone but personally, I really liked it.

At first i was like, “this is kind of a ‘meh’ book for me.”

Although the writing is EXQUISITE.

Then, e. lockhart ripped my heart out with that plot twist and here I am giving this book five stars.

I rarely read books in one sitting. I would have read this one in one sitting if it hadn't been for a dentist appointment. Cadence comes from a privileged New England family and spends every summer on an island near Martha's Vineyard owned by her grandparents. Two years ago, an accident left Cadence with selective amnesia and terrible migraines. She returns to her family's island to try to piece together the events that led to her current condition. I am a bit jealous of E. Lockhart. She can write lighthearted books like the Ruby Oliver series and also write a haunting book such as this. I would give this to teens who like suspenseful stories and even adults who enjoyed Gone Girl, The Husband's Secret, or the television show, Revenge.
