This book had me hooked and finishing it in one sitting. I could not put it down and just devoured it. I have seen the TV series first, so I think that gave me more of an emotional response, and with that, I found the written ending a little bit underwhelming in comparison.

Originally I wasn’t too into the book until about halfway through. I started loving the book and then the ending was brutal.

I loved every moment up until we found out the truth.  I wasn’t surprised, just really sad. Like I read it and wasn’t like oh my god no way that’s crazy— I was just super bummed out. Sure that’s a normal response to finding out people are dead BUT when people talk about how this book has a crazy twist ending I thought it was going to be super crazy and twisty!!!!

I really liked this book! It was very very fast paced with short chapters which made it really engaging. I guessed the ending but I was still shocked when I realized what was going on. Overall a good thriller! Didn’t mind that it was YA.

We Were Liars challenges the perfect facade of the wealthy elite and reveals just how dark the truth can be. It’s heart-pounding and heartbreaking with mysteries and traumas so deep that even the most seasoned reader will find themselves flabbergasted at the big twist.

I could see the twist a mile away. And the characters have zero depth. Felt random. I read it bc I wanted to read it then watch the show!

Overall a little average. The writing isn't particularly good, but not bad either. The characters are likeable enough and well written enough, but also a little superficial. The main character is a little hard to grasp, which is partly on purpose I imagine, but makes it hard to relate to her. The whole story felt like it could have been more fleshed out, and it would have been pretty good if there had been more depth to everything, because the base was good. The aunts, the grandfather, the children were all pretty interesting side characters. I enjoyed the first take elements which highlight one aspect or one way to look at the actual story,l. 3,75 feels a little harsh, but it just falls short of the 4 stars.

This book reminded me of the movie The Uninvited. If you have seen it then you will know. I was wondering what the big secret was. I should have seen it coming but it still shocked me to read the secret. Cady was frustrating at times. But after seeing why the secret was kept, then I realized why she was frustrating. Gat I liked and he was a likable character.  What the Liars did during the summers, was so chill and I actually felt like I was with them. the slow mornings or the game days or beach days. I could picture myself there at the island relaxing. The family problems, I can see that happening in almost every family that has any money. Money breaks families apart.

Anyways, while reading the book, I am pretty sure the author got inspiration from the movie Uninvited and now I want to ask if it's true.
