Read this back when it first came out. What a fun re-read. Visceral. Avoid the audiobook tho.

The good:
- interesting take on alien takeover. Found the triangles to be fun and creepy
- well paced book and good use of flipping between chick characters you follow
- gnarly deaths (not good if you don’t like gore though)
The bad:
- did the author recently get divorced and now has a grudge against his wife and women or something before writing this? Serious men writing women material here
- flat, 1 dimensional and cliche characters. Basically just the author with different names, gender, and a schtick slapped on
- nearly every male character was either blatantly or subtly misogynistic
- random and unnecessary analogies using Nazis in contexts that had nothing to with it
For me, I enjoyed it but the bad parts are hard to get past so probably won’t continue the series

Scott Sigler wrote this book about 20 years ago, and it reads like it was written 20 years ago. It’s not bad just not my cup of tea.
Graphic: Body horror, Murder
Moderate: Domestic abuse, Racial slurs, Racism
Minor: War
After 45%, I cut loose. Maybe, the story would have been better had the author got a real voice actor to do the book. Maybe not. I wasn't a fan. At all.
Story was OK but all the characters were terrible. Unnecessary homophobia, racism, ableism, and misogyny. Doesn’t know how to write a female character. Don’t know if I’ll continues the series
I was promised gore, violence, and an un-put-downable horror/thrill ride and it was just unfortunately boring. There wasn't enough gore and violence to be the type of book where you just turn off your brain and go for a ride. The twist did seem interesting but not enough for me to continue on with the series because of all the other shortcomings.
