This book was okay. Like I said, this aren't the kind of books that you hold tight and whisper thousands of thanks yous for saving you; you don't go around with one of these in your favorite-books-of-all-time lists. But they're easy to read, comfortable and appropriate for some lazy day when you just wanna be sappy and romantic and read about people fall in love.
Anyways, this is a nice book!

This has always been my least favorite installment in this quartet.
I just don't connect with the characters as much...

Published 1996, read in 2024.
I can see the blueprint for today's romance novels in this story structure: rough but sweet farmer boy (and ladies man) and cool, intelligent intellectual woman.
This story finishes the story arc of the 4 brothers - healing for them and healing for the pasts trauma of the lands they all live on.

Ah at long last, Shane has met his match and given in. I loved seeing them fall in love and I love the ghosts in this one. Amazing end to the series.
Leave it to Nora to somehow make me LIKE a "ladies man" type of character-- and not only that, but somehow get me to ship him with the never-been-with-anyone heroine. I usually do not like this trope at all, but man... Shane is so annoyingly loveable lol. And I adore Rebecca, her demeanor, the fact that she's trying to put on a brave face when she's really so shy inside... all the little things that make up these two characters actually managed to make me root for them, which I wasn't expecting. As far as the series goes, this was definitely my second favorite story after Devin's. And like book 3, the connection to the past in this story made a lot more sense to me than it did in the first two books.
