Thanks to St. Martin's Press for sending me a digital ARC through NetGalley! :)

I adored this book! The format is all texts and emails, so I absolutely flew through this book. I really, really loved the story. It's about two best friends who go to colleges on each side of the country, both really different girls, but loyal to each other always. I feel like you're either an Ava or a Gen. I'm definitely an Ava. I loved the way the authors touched on her anxiety without being overly like "THIS CHARACTER HAS ANXIETY AND SHE GOES TO THERAPY AND SHE TAKES MEDS AND IT'S ALL GOOD." As someone with anxiety, who goes to therapy, and takes meds, I thought it was real. And I loved the way Gen really looks out for Ava when she's going through an episode.

While Ava is struggling with making friends and living away from home (#relatable), Gen is struggling with defining (or...not defining) her sexuality and exploring her freedom from her alcoholic parents on the other side of the country. Each girl definitely has their faults and the way their friendship is portrayed is very realistic and authentic, but at the end of the day, they have too much of a history to ever part ways for good.

I loved the way this book depicted freshman year of college, first relationships, new friendships, and the way you act with your lifelong best friend. I can't wait for this to officially come out so I can recommend it to everyone I know!

This was a great story with such a complex range of emotions portrayed through text and emails. It had the relatable qualities of having Ava and Gen going though college troubles with transition from high school.

A long distance BFF friendship story told through texts and emails over the course of one year of college. Not my favorite read, but oddly fascinating in a fly on the wall kind of way.

I was pretty excited to read this, but it ended up being a let down. I love reading about best friends (especially if one of them suffers from anxiety like me), and I also really love novels that tell parts of the story through emails and texts. The thing is, with a book that has no real plot and is very character driven you need to have interesting and likable characters... but these two were downright insufferable at times. And usually emails help you to understand certain characters and their inner thoughts and so on, but in this specific instance that type of format actually really hindered any real connection I could've had with these people. We hear everything in a weird secondhand way that takes away a lot of the emotion that could've helped me to enjoy this 'story' more, and I ended up not really caring about any of the characters or their problems. Overall this book was pretty boring, with meh characters.

An overall fun, light read. It's hard to tell if some of my annoyances with the characters was because there were flaws with the character dynamics or because I was seeing my own insecurities reflected back at me lol

This book is mostly charming and there are times when I genuinely laughed out loud. But there are also times when I wanted to smack Gen. And sometimes Ava, too. But it's pretty cool that the authors create space for the characters to make some dumb ass mistakes. Having worked on a college campus for over 20 years, many of these situations are quite familiar. I also think this is fairly accurate depiction of young adult social anxiety.
