I think this book is really predictable if you're well versed in media, especially horror media. Like literally all of it down to the fake outs and the metaphor.
"Kill your darlings" is a very common author metaphor for editing and letting go of bad parts of a story.
I just don't like predictability in fiction. Most of the time what I'm going for is something new, and unexpected. I think someone's experience with the horror and modern "literary" fiction are going to heavily determine how weird and unexpected this book is to them.

This is a rare occasion where the prose is quite nice. That being said, I don't really enjoy the content and the emphasis on sex and sexuality. The college students felt like highschoolers. The bunnies themselves were not scary or creepy, they just sounded like a normal lesbian polycule. Not once in my real life have I ever seen the goth-won't-wear-kitten-gloves or goth vs prep thing that this book employs. No one in this story is a real person, they're Daria level caricatures but they're masquerading as fully fleshed out characters.

Overall it's not a terrible book but not enjoyable enough to finish.

SAMANTHA INLOVE WITH AVA IS THE BEST THING EVER BUT THE FACT THAT AVA DIES IS THE WORST THING EVER I WANNA CRYYYY
AMAZING BOOK!!! Got it and thought it was interesting and it was so much better than the back of the book. Get ready for a heathers and Melanie Martinez mv rollercoaster of emotions and plot line. Some parts are questionable but absolute epitome of metaphorical horror/ psychology cult thriller!!!!! ❤️❤️❤️

Is every girl at least a little gay for their best friend? Middle is a little boring, gets really exciting at about 4/5 through the book. From the tango class onward, I had a feeling about Ava and I was about fifty percent right. If this is what it takes to get an MFA, count me out.

Crazy-scary-sad is the perfect way to describe this book.  I'm a fan of the prose - the proems. Hate bouquet. Fuck you flower. Mouth sounds.

This book defied all my initial expectations but felt quite disjointed. I wish it flowed more smoothly. I nearly lost interest halfway through when Samantha's (the MC) pity party kind of felt too much. Still, I recommend it just because Mona Awad's writing style is fun to read!

Yes to messed up main characters. My rating also includes that I was too dumb to understand the book
because my friend who lent it to me had to spell out how unreliable the narrator was that nothing happened and suddenly it all made sense

Oh my god I cannot spend another minute with this. The FMC comes off so whiny and self-pitying, her best friend is one of the most selfish, disrespectful, toxic and cringey edgelords I've ever read, and the bunnies are genuinely intolerable. This whole thing reads like something written in high school during the peak of someone's "I'm not like other girls" pick-me era. Maybe that's the whole point and I'm missing the forest for the trees here but I can't listen to another minute of how whiny and pathetic the FMC is. I'm not going to waste another nine hours of my life on this, I'm sorry but I just can't 😮‍💨

This was a really odd book, and I don't mean that in a bad way.

I really loved some of the writing, especially the way some things are described or the vivid similes used. I read this really quickly and that was refreshing after my previous, long and emotional wrecking reads.

I reckon I have a fairly decent understanding of the story, but I do know that I could definitely delve deeper into it. However, I'm happy just having gone along for the ride and I don't really feel that compelled to dive into the contents of the book that much. I enjoyed the freaky, girly, strangeness to it and it did its job to fill me with such an odd feeling at times.

I didn't really understand the line at the end with the mud but that's ok.

Oh I loved this. It was twisted. It was surreal. It was weird. I found myself wanting to know more and hoping the protagonist put herself in danger to do so. 😬 Normally I’m like, “no don’t go in there” but this book was so intriguing I kept hoping she’d go where she shouldn’t.
