wow. just wow. this is the first mona awad novel i’ve read and i was not disappointed. it’s gory and absurd and downright disturbing. i loved it. i never had any clue what was going to happen next, and i was always pleasantly surprised at what she had in store. there was so much symbolism and so many metaphors and i’m sure i didn’t even catch them all. the characters were so full-fledged and yet so empty? since we were seeing everyone and everything through samantha’s eyes, there was this veil of blissful ignorance draped over everything. i would have loved to get a peek into what the bunnies saw.
my favorite part of the whole book has to be max’s whole “performance piece” with the bunnies in the cave. watching their perfect, carefully curated, fake identities collapse was so satisfying and mildly humorous.

I enjoyed this book, it was seriously gripping and made me desperately want to finish and understand. I’m not sure it was the right book for me. The plot is so well formulated and new and exciting to anything I’ve read before, and I know the characters personality was indicative of the plot, however, I think I prefer more exploratory, emotional, real characters?

It was confusing as hell, the ending disappointed me slightly but it kept me invested to the last page. Overall enjoyable read but overhyped.

THIS BOOK IS SO STRESSFUL TO READ.
If you just read part 1 and part 2 you'll be thinking um it's intense but like it's fine part 3 let me tell YOUU I was tense on the edge of my seat I hatteeeddd it but in a good way it was so difficult to read.
Definitely don't read this if you don't like an unreliable narrator, Samantha is like the most unreliable narrator ever but I loved it. I questioned so much what was real and you can really see the shift of how she sees the world throughout the book, and it definitely feels like you're living through it with her, it's crazy.
Also can i just say... max is so hot I cannot believe he was KILLED I want him BACK like I know he's a freak but PLEASE 🙄🙄
The book goes in a very different direction than I thought it would near part 3 and I honestly started not enjoying it too much, hence the minus .5 stars, but this book had me on the edge of my seat the entire time, read it regardless in 3 sittings I LOVED it. The ending is a smack in your face that leaves you with a hole in your chest so yeah <3 read it
