Angela Davis is amazing, but I'm not a big fan of collections of speeches. It's a book with some enlightening choice quotes and she often has a beautiful way of putting things, but if you didn't already know/agree with her on what she's talking about, I can imagine you don't get much out of this book. It's not a book for learning. If there is a thesis, it's probably that individualism is unsuccessful in creating structural change, and that as MLK said "injustice anywhere is a threat to justice everywhere"--the organizers of the BDS movement in Palestine, Black Lives Matter organizers, prison abolitionist, etc. need to connect their struggles as much as possible. Highlight of the book was the way she speaks about Obama with measured criticism and careful word choice.

this was a great collection of essays. i read one a night over the course of a week and annotated. it was very intellectual at times which made some parts hard to read, but it was hopeful. sometimes i forget things wont happen overnight
