I expected this book to be more of a page turner but it read more like someone's dissertation. The author is a skilled writer for sure but I enjoyed the stories about the search for these records. Scuba diving in the river! Wow. To me that was much more interesting then all of the biographical information on the artists and collectors. Country Blues really isn't a genre I have much interest in but I did find myself seeking out many of the songs he author mentioned. Maybe someday I'll hear someone play a 78 and will appreciate this music more.

Great read. The author has done a great job of pulling together different stories and the overall history of 78 records. It was interesting to see and understand the different players involved as well as the various hunts and pecks needed to find these rare albums. For a music fan this is a must read.

Just an incredibly fun read. I’ve been a music collector and fan for a long time, and this book increased my knowledge of and appreciation for prewar music. It’s also full of great stories and vivid people. It’s a book that sticks with you in the best possible way and makes you want to experience more of the world.

4.5. Good synopsis of what drives 78 collectors. (YouTube is a great tool while reading this book. A song gets mentioned, you can pause and listen to get an idea.) Highly enjoyable.

A phenomenal book providing insight into an equally phenomenal world. This is a book I wish I had written. Not only does Petrusich skillfully guide the reader through this world, her astute and profound questions and thoughts only deepen the reader's experience for music and for collecting.
