I like Jojo Moyes' books, at least the ones I've read so far, because you know, in the end, love wins. A painting by a fictional student of Matisse is the main character here. The novel goes back and forth between Sophie's (the girl in the painting) experiences in a German occupied French town and Olivia's (modern day owner of the painting) experiences. There is an interesting twist on the business of recovering artifacts stolen by the Nazi's. An engrossing read.

Brilliant book!

I love the story of Sophie, but I am pretty "meh" on Liv. This book is so much differeny than others I have read by this author.

The Girl You Left Behind alternates between two time periods and characters who are linked by a painting. The story of Sophie is much more compelling than that of Liv but overall it was an enjoyable read.
