What started out as a tough book to get interested in (I completely stopped and listened to another book) turned out to be a compelling story. I’m glad I came back to this because it was an interesting and unique story with great characters and eloquent writing. Very happily surprised.

I cannot think. I simply want to revel in the profundity of a book. I'm in awe... Jojo Moyes. Again and again, my adjectives fail me.

Tears in my eyes every time I read a Moyes book

I'm so captivated by these characters. This story is so moving. The people feel so real. I cried tears for people who must have endured these things and worse. Again, another well written novel. Another favorite for my shelf.

A brilliant read. This book cleverly weaves two stories of two women with a similar predicament, though they lived almost a century apart. Sophie Lefevre was left to fend for German soldiers while her husband served in World War One, while Liv Halston found herself alone and detached after her husband dird. The Girl You Left Behind talks about how Sophie's enigmatic, haunting painting continue to affect her life, and only Liv's. A charming tale of lost artwork, proving that it was a gift and not a product of theft, has been cleverly weaved into a story of patriotism, abandonment and loyalty. It was impossible to stop reading the book, and Moyes definitely quelled the reader's thirst in solving the mystery of the missing painting. A joyous twist at the end, brought about with the help of the charming Paul, definitely brought a sense of renewed hope and faith to the story. More than just a good read!

This was a bit of a disappointment, after enjoying "Me before You" so much.
I liked the Sophie parts much more than the Liv chapters. I found Liv slightly off-putting.

A great read. So many compelling characters, interesting story and good writing.

It felt like two separate books which I didn't really enjoy. The first half of the book taking place in occupied France was brilliant and I was very invested. However, the second half was not as good and i really struggled to finish it.
