I was just not in the space for this book
Wow...just...not enough stars for this. <3
Thank you Pamela Dorman Books/Penguin and Netgalley for these eARC's.
Anyone who knows me knows I'm rarely at a loss for words but that's exactly how this story, which began in the prequel novella, has left me. Trying to put my thoughts/feelings/emotions into coherent sentences is quite a challenging task especially when the tears just.won't.stop. I read Jojo Moyes' ME BEFORE YOU and loved it, so when this one was recommended to me, I pounced and have come to the conclusion that I will read anything this woman writes!
Whether you are a fan of historical fiction or not, (I'm generally not) THE GIRL YOU LEFT BEHIND is a heart achingly gorgeous story of unwavering love and incredible sacrifice. It will pull you in, wrap itself around your heartstrings and refuse to let go until you have laughed, cried and hugged the ones you love just a little bit tighter.
Trust me when I tell you that YOU NEED THIS BOOK IN YOUR LIFE!

It was a good one. Not really a fan of historical drama but the mystery of whether did Edouard and Sophie met, and the competition between Liv and Paul kept me going. It was really worth the time reading
Oh gosh, this was a fantastic story. The tale of Sophie was just riveting. And Liv's tale also had its merits, although it wasn't nearly as amazing.
Accurate Rating: 4.5 Stars
I loved this book. I was engaged by all of the main characters but I wanted more of Sophie. Great book.

This book really grabbed me from the beginning and kept me enthralled. It's part love story, part historical novel, part courtroom drama, and very well put together! The story starts in a French village during World War I when the Kommandant of the occupying German forces becomes fascinated with a painting of a young woman and also with its subject, whose husband (the painter) is away fighting in the war.
About halfway through the book, the story switches to modern times and a grieving young widow living in London whose main remembrance of her husband is a painting (same one from the earlier story) that he bought for her on their honeymoon.
I loved the way the author tied the stories together. There were a lot of coincidences in the plot, but I can forgive those for a story as good as this one. Highly recommended!

I enjoyed this book, but not as well as some of her other works. I really enjoyed the character development of "The Girl" (that was left behind) and her family, but felt that that was cut short so that we could be brought to present day where those characters were not as well developed(probably due to the time taken for the first set of characters). The main character became a tad annoying after a while and the story was semi-predictable. I appreciated the history that was infused throughout the book. Quick read and an overall great book..with some minor annoyances.
